The discovery of wine, produced in the Marca Trevigiana, takes you around the Piave river, after exploring areas ranging from Conegliano to Valdobbiadene, or the traditional route of the Bianco. Although the vineyards of the Piave also give excellent white wines, the most conspicuous production is that of the Rosso. The ancient cultures, the strong peasant world of its values, the peculiarities of the landscape are once again the cornerstones of this journey. Cleared of every doubt, lovers of the red arm themselves with a road map, guide and a desire to taste because the itinerary, which branches out for about 150 km, has many surprises in store and above all many discoveries. The route crosses places full of meaning and of strong evocative value, very often little known by the general public.
The lands crossed by the Piave, which still retain many touching memories of the Great War, constitute a complex and fascinating cultural system deeply marked by a millenary and passionate care of its landscape; in this area the rural vocation has conditioned History by establishing values and crops, traditions and vineyards. The Piave Wines Road offers itself to the most attentive and demanding tourists, enhancing the territory of the Piave Doc and its wines, understood not only as such, but as the result of a happy combination of soils, traditions, skills, passions and ideas that only a bottle of wine can manage to contain and tell. These wines are combined with the many typical products of an extraordinary land which offers not only a solid gastronomic tradition, but also precious products such as the famous radicchio rosso and the less known, but no less interesting, ``radicchio verdon``, white asparagus, river fish and a solid tradition of sausages de casada , as they say around here. The Vini del Piave road winds mainly on the left bank of the river, striving to touch most - and there are so many - of the localities, of the producing companies and of the noteworthy restaurants of this corner of Veneto still partially to be discovered. There are three areas to focus on, with the aim of understanding the various settlement moments and different traditions and, not to be forgotten, to taste excellent wines and typical products. The former sees the vineyards that belonged to the Serenissima as protagonists Republic of Venice: winds, both on the left and on the right of the Piave, in a path that starts from the elegant Oderzo - always a nerve center of this territory - and from its particular stylistic balance, among ancient vestiges (I sec. AC) and modern enhancements, leading to Roncade through a series of quiet towns and ancient villages, among vineyards, which are always an integral part of the landscape, alternating with woods and other crops. The second, which da Roncade arrives at Cimadolmo (home of the white Asparagus Dop), it is still littered with beautiful Venetian patrician residences, many of which today are home to renowned wineries: defined the area of `` vineyards of the Doges ”, broadly embraces the central part of the province of Treviso and enjoys a view to the north of which is the backbone of the Prealps, while on the right flows the Piave with its rocky shores and the austere grace of its horizons. The third part is the one that from Cimadolmo takes us back to Oderzo and extends into the Raboso Piave area, the only autochthonous black grape variety that, after years of oblivion due to its character too decided, he found new interpretations - and consequently great successes - thanks to the local winemakers, who were able to bend the slightly ``rough`` character of his grapes and give life to more and more appreciated and sought after wines. Even in this area there is no lack of villas, but what is most striking is the atmosphere of this ``left Piave`` with its ancient traditions, the views that allow a glimpse of the river, the isolated churches that hide precious frescoes and the jewel-like towns Portobuffolè. The inn is located in the lands of the Piave, right there where the bitter battles that characterized the First World War were fought. These places constitute a suggestive testimony of the past.
